I Just received a preview copy of Eric Anfinson's "Along the Edges of Beauty". I can be pretty critical of other people's books. Eric's is perfect. The weight, texture and size have the perfect feel. The presentation is seamless and the print quality exceptional. Eric's paintings speak for themselves, and this book has more than a hundred - many I've never seen. This is the kind of book that will hold a prominent place on my coffee table for a long while.

In this beautifully-presented book, I learned about more than the paintings of Eric Anfinson; I met the artist himself. The centerpiece of the book consists of works Anfinson painted during the last decade. They are well-photographed and simply presented against a black background that allows the reader to focus on the play of light, color, and shape in each one. The paintings are framed by an introduction written by Matt Dukes Jordan and a final interview with Sara Shea. Jordan describes the relationship of Anfinson's paintings to his life and philosophy and his progression during those ten years from intimate portraits to narrative works. In her interview, Shea asks the questions we'd all like to have answered about the artist's life and opinions. As I turned the last page, I had the feeling that every reader will come to know the artist himself as if sharing a glass of wine at an outdoor café while discussing art, philosophy, hardship, beauty, and joy.

Art is Life

''Eric's painting has always focused on the emotional, the colorful, and the deeply meaningful aspects of life. One gets the sense that he has always known that art is dangerous.''
